Thank you to everyone who supported and signed the All or None Public Notification Ordinance petition. The Bethel Town Clerk has qualified the 544 required signatures!

PHASE I - SPECIAL TOWN MEETING! ☑

TUESDAY, APRIL 24th at 7:30PM- BETHEL MUNICIPAL CENTER

Thank you for attending and supporting the All or None Notification Ordinance - Your presence there made all the difference!

PHASE III - SPECIAL TOWN MEETING! ☑

We won! Resolution passed! The resolution to urge the BoS to enact the ordinance was passed, 87 to 57.

PHASE IV - BOARD of SELECTMAN MUST ACT (or not)
Here's where things are getting sticky... From what Town Attorney Martin Lawlor said at the May 1, 2012 Board of Selectman meeting, the BoS has 3 options now:
1. Enact the ordinance as worded in the petition
2. Modify the ordinance and then enact revised version
3. Do nothing and pretend it never happened

We will accept nothing less than #1. No other option is acceptable. We signed a petition to enact a specific ordinance. By modifying the original, the Board of Selectman will be revising what we voted on. If they choose Option #3, it will be very telling. The message they will be sending to the people of Bethel will be, "We do not care what you think or want, we don't agree so therefore we will not act."

Do Options #2 and #3 line up with our Town Charter? We think not. We are watching this process very closely. Our intention is to ensure that your voices have been heard and that they count. Thank you for being a part of this important moment in Bethel's history.
